Happy Holidays art peeps:)

Near the end of November I had the good fortune to take in the BC Museum's new Emily Carr exhibition, 'FRESH SEEING'.  The first real art show I've been to since the world shut down.  We ordered timed entry tickets online, wore masks and had a socially distanced experience with only a few people in at any one time.  Great way to see a major exhibition, without the crowds! Emily Carr is iconic for painting BC's forests, but the over 80 paintings presented at this exhibition were earlier than these; all of which I had never seen before!  So it was very interesting for me.  Most of the works in the show are heavily influenced by Emily's time in Europe and the French Modernist painters there.

I found fresh inspiration by getting out to see that show.  It helped me get motivated and work my way through several things on the go in the studio.

Here's me with 'Lochside View' which is a 40 x 30 inch oil on cradled wood panel.  I struggled to find the tones for the glow I had experienced on a late summer evening while bicycling along the Lochside trail.  But I'm really happy with it now.

Next to it is 'Evening Solace' which is 30 x 60 inch oil on canvas.  This one also took me a while, but eventually it spoke with my voice. Always a satisfying feeling when that happens.
