Sally Chupick is a Canadian painter. She develops her work by observing and inventing, mixing what she sees and what she would like to see; harmonizing elements of mood and concept into a visual expression.
Sally was born in Nova Scotia in 1956 and raised in Canada and Europe. Her background is fashion design, but a life-long interest in visual art made her pursue painting. Selecting courses and workshops in Canada, the UK and Australia, she built her skills and knowledge. "I read art books like novels, and I never get enough of looking at paintings in museums & galleries." She married and raised 3 daughters; developing her art while frequently moving around the world with her family. Painting became her constant; it kept her grounded. For three years (1999-2001) in Australia Sally painted full time. It was a huge period of growth. While there she attended the Brougham School of Art and studied art history and oil painting. Returning to Canada, she noticed the transition from working in watercolour to working in oils was bringing a significant change to her work. The soft diffused watercolour glazes morphed into more difinitive shapes; and a sense of play began to creep into the structures of compositions. But harmony of colour and rythymn still remain an integral element of her paintings in oils.
Sally lives in an old country house north of the city where she has her studio, Stoneheath Studio. It is open by appointment.
